Question # 1. Why do we sell caps or closures separately?

This has always been an in-house discussion. Do we offer the container with the cap? Should those glass jars come with an equal amount of gold metal lids or black plastic caps? Trust me, it’s a question that pops up around the office almost daily. So why don’t we switch?

Well, there’s an explanation for it. We do it for you. I know it sounds crazy. Why make your life more difficult?

Reason # 1. We carry a large selection of different caps for each jar and bottle. Different colors, materials, liners on the inside, etc. So why not let you choose? Maybe you only need 30 Gold metal caps and 102 and of the black metal caps in the same size. Perhaps you need a third cap in there with an F217 foam liner as well.

Reason # 2. You need more caps than Jars or Bottles. Yes, I know this one sounds strange. Why would you ever need more caps than jars? Well, caps take up a lot less space than jars or bottles. For example, in the next month, you plan to run 8,000 jars of a 16 oz Economy Round. That would be approximately 3 ½ pallets of glass and 8 boxes of caps. You don’t have the space for 3 pallets at the moment, but 8 boxes of caps are no problem. Why not take advantage of some discount pricing on the caps, save some money on the shipping and not have to worry about getting more caps until the next run.

Reason # 3. You don’t need the caps or found them cheaper elsewhere. Burch Bottle always strives to give you the cheapest price on all of our products, but sometimes that is just not possible. Maybe you are willing to sacrifice some quality on the caps and you found them cheaper elsewhere. There’s no reason why you can’t buy the jar from us then. We are always willing to help.

Question # 2. What is a bulk pallet? (Don’t worry I added in some pictures)

You probably have seen this term all over the place. What does it mean? Well, take a look at the pictures below. Notice anything?

There are no boxes!

Bulk pallets are just glass or plastic containers stacked onto the pallet, typically with a palletizer, without the normal cardboard box.

Why do glass and plastic manufacturers do this?

Essentially without the carton, more containers fit onto a pallet, meaning that more containers fit onto a truck. This helps reduce costs.

For example, you would be able to fit approximately 52,360 of the 500 ml Green Marasca bottle on a truck if they are on bulk pallets without the box. Add in the box and it's only approximately 37,000 bottles.

There are additional benefits besides a lower cost as well.

That little important thing is called branding. Normally when you’re buying your product in boxes, it’s a plain brown or white box with 6 or 12 containers. Now your able to custom-make a box with your logo and a creative design in whatever case pack you want. Maybe you do them as a gift set with a different product. Now you don’t have to toss the old plain carton, since there isn’t one.

After the product is manufactured it will come down the line and reach a machine called a palletizer. This machine will add the product to the pallet layer by layer. Between each layer, hard chipboard, plastic, or cardboard is added. Once the full pallet is stacked then straps and shrink wrap or ballistic wrap is added and the pallet is ready to go.
