Starbucks PSL fans are abuzz this week, as the company launches its quintessential fall favorite beverage earlier than ever in 2024. Pumpkin spice lattes herald the coming autumn season, which officially starts September 22nd. Here in upstate New York, the days are already a bit cooler, black walnut tree leaves are starting to turn yellow, and locals are ready for their first sip of their favorite fall beverages.
The star of the show is pumpkin spice – made famous in your grandma’s Thanksgiving pumpkin pie and then modernized through Starbucks’ caffeinated beverage that we have all come to love. However, have you ever stopped to wonder what exactly pumpkin spice is? The flavor is a mix of spices you may already have at home, making it a simple recipe to mix up and add to your own fall favorite recipes. Skip the line for the store bought PSL and make your own latte, spiced cider, autumn cookies, and more!
To make your own pumpkin spice, combine:
- 3 Tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1.5 teaspoons ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- Pinch ground black pepper (optional)
We offer a wide range of spice jars to keep your homemade mixture fresh and airtight for your fall baking! Once the ingredients have been combined, store your pumpkin spice in a 4oz French Square Spice Jar, a 4oz Mini Mason Jar, or one of our many other options! We offer our glass jars by the case – not just in bulk quantities. Find a case of just 12 or 24 to have glass jars on hand to mix up spices all year long!
Once you’ve made your very own pumpkin spice mix, the recipes are endless! Here are just some of our favorite fall pumpkin spice recipes for this upcoming time of year.
